Generally you can expect a natural colored tank to adjust its color to whatever color your fuel is. Draining the Fuel after you are done riding will slow this process as well as limiting any breakdown damage occuring from the naturally volitale additives and other compounds found in today's fuel.
Wash your Tank Things such as mud, dirt or spilled gas can stain the outside of your tank. Wash your tank thoroughly with a non abrasive cleaner to help keeping your tank looking like the day you bought it.Role models speech
We recommend a mixture of laundry detergent and water to maintain a nice finish. Please remember that abrasive cleaners will scratch the plastic. Prepare your Tank If you are planning to place any stickers or graphics on your tank, it is advisable to do so before placing fuel into the tank. Once in the tank Fuel prevent graphics from adhering properly. Please note that IMS will not be responsible for replacing or reimbursing any graphics placed on an IMS tank for any reason. SPF your Tank The sun and plastic are natural born enemies.
As is the case with any kind of plastic, prolonged exposure to the sun will breakdown and weather your IMS Tank. Keep your tank under cover to prolong its life exponentially. Ethanol is not your friend Trace amounts of ethanol can be found in many of today's fuels and ethanol is nauturally destructive to plastics and rubbers.
Find a fuel source that you feel confident is free of ethanol to prevent ealry wear on your tank, seals and gaskets. Inspect your Tank Your tank should be inspected before every ride to check for any leaks or worn out components. Worn out components should be replaced immediately. Go easy on your Tank Do not overtighten bolts into your tank. When overtightened the metal inserts can be spun, causing a leak point in your tank.
Also avoid using locktite on your bolts. This can cause the bolt to sieze and spin upon removal, once again causing a leak.
Prepare for the future We recommend using some kind of compound to prevent botls from seizing.Corona skeffa
Standard anti-seize or grease will work, but we recomend using a silicone on your bolts. While all three items will prevent seizing, Silicone does a better job of keeping dirt out as well as preventing the bolt from vibrating free. Don't tighten bolts too early Unless the bolt will be inaccesible after installation, wait to tighten bolts until all the bolts have been started. This will give you a little bit more play when aligning bolts for installation.
I opened up the two screws that retain the lever and internals in order to get to some harder to reach areas, but did not take note of which way the valve was when I disassembled the petcock. Note the rubber insert was not removed as it seemed to be in good condition.
I have reassembled this now and think there are only two ways it can go back together, though I am unable to locate any documentation or images on the inside of the IMS petcock. I'd check the fuel pickups and line for clogs, also make sure the vent isnt clogged. Thanks jayd This is my setup below. I have read however of overflow into the carburettor and that it could leak into an intake if a valve inside the carburettor does not work sufficiently. The distance between the IMS petcock and the carburettor is smaller than that of the stock tank setup, which makes it even trickier to install the in line filter I have in the image below.
I just hope there is no issue in fuel delivery to the carburettor want to avoid starving it as the IMS setup is not vacuum operated and there is no fuel pump. Adventure Rider. I don't think it's even possible to put the lever in upside down.
If if flows when set to off handle pointing to the rear there is a problem. Seems that although the IMS does not have a vacuum, they flow on the same settings.Log in or Join.

I didn't realize that about the the Acerbis. Guess I'll probably go with the IMS for the greater volume. I strap on 1 gallon plastic gas jug from Wal-mart. I find that I rarely use or need it. The one down side to the IMS tank is that you have a manual petcock instead of a vacuum petcock.

Pete, FL. I chose to purchase it, along with the pristine bike. The IMS tank fit well and with the proper o-ring purchased from an auto parts dealerworks well with the stock petcock. Turning the fuel petcock off when stopped is no big deal, as I've been riding for quite a few years 36and most bikes from that era, had manual fuel petcocks and kick starters. I guess you could go out and spend some money on a vacuum petcock, but it seems like a needless expense, considering the savage nature of the beast.

IMS 4.9 Gallon Tank Question
I received my 4. It Bolted right in without any trouble. Seems only slightly bigger than my stock tank. Looking forward to the extended mileage on my BRP. Installation was a breeze.Max retries exceeded with url localhost
The only trouble I ran into was that one of the billet aluminum mounts from XRs Only had to get redrilled since the holes were slightly off on the IMS tank. The stock Honda mounts fit fine though. Fitment is great and the body panels mounted up perfectly after slightly trimming the right side shroud.

If so how about fuel tank venting with the OEM cap? If the answer is no and I have to use the IMS supplied gas filler cap, then I know I need to order the shorty fuel cap vent hose because I don't want long spaghetti like hose circling up and around my fuel tank.
I have a TM40, and with my inline fuel filter in place, there is very little sunshine between the OEM petcock and the carb. Do I need to use the 90 degree fuel filter see below to make this work?
